July 20 - Small Group News!

Welcome to Small Group!

Tonight at 8 PM we will be discussing the life of the Shunammite Woman.

Generous and hospitable, she was a wealthy and capable woman who showed great kindness to one of God’s prophets.  Her story can be found in 2 Kings 4:8 – 37; 8:1 – 6.

Our questions tonight are as follows:

  1. Why do you think stopping at this woman’s house became a habit for Elisha?
  2. Why do you think the woman responded to the promise of a son as she did in verse 16? Compare verse 28.
  3. Why did she tell both her husband and Gehazi that everything was “all right” when it wasn’t? What was her goal?
  4. What do you admire about the Shunammite woman that you would like to imitate?

See you tonight!

July 13 - Small Group News!

Tonight at 8 PM we will be studying about the life of the Widow of Zarephath.

She was a foreigner facing starvation, yet she showed extraordinary hospitality to one of God's prophets, providing a safe harbor for him during a period of famine.  Her story can be found in 1 Kings 17:8-24. She is also mentioned in Luke 4:25-26.

Our questions for the evening are as follows:
  1. Why do you suppose the God of Israel sent the prophet of Israel to get help from a pagan widow?
  2. The woman is searingly honest with Elijah in 1 Kings 17:12. What is she telling him here? Why do you think she does what Elijah asks her?
  3. In 1 Kings 17:17 – 18, where does she place blame for her son’s death? If her reaction surprises you in any way, tell how.
  4. What do you think you’re meant to take away from this story? What does it say about God?

July 6 - Small Group News!

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend, full of fun and family!

Tonight's Bible study will focus on the life of a woman whose name is synonymous with wickedness.

Jezebel was a religious woman, spreading idolatry throughout Israel. Powerful, cunning and arrogant, she actively opposed God, even in the face of indisputable proofs of His sovereignty.
Her story can be found in 1 Kings 16:29-33; 18:1-19; 21:1-25; 2 Kings 9

Tonight's questions are...
  1. Compare Jezebel's (19:2) and the Israelites' (18:39) reactions to the Mount Carmel duel? What do you think made Jezebel so dedicated to Baal?
  2. How dedicated are you to the Lord? What might cause you to rethink that dedication?
  3. How do you feel about the fact that Jezebel got what she deserved? In general, do you like to see people get what they deserve? Why or why not?
  4. Take a moment to imagine yourself as strong and evil as Jezebel. Then imagine yourself as strong as Jezebel but good. What would you do if you were that strong, but good?
